Hub on the pathway to impact

A framework to optimise the impact of research, development, extension and adoption (RDE&A) at the Hub is a step closer.

Pip Job has been developing our contemporary framework for extension and adoption as part of the Pathways to Impact project which began in April.

“The Hub plays a critical role in helping to amplify impact, extension and adoption. This project is making sure that the fundamentals that underpin how you get to impact, are better understood, and better supported,” she said.

According to Pip, a key part of the initiative is developing extension and adoption methodologies, tools and skills.

“This will enable uptake by the Hub of cutting-edge agricultural practices, technologies, and research findings by farmers and communities, promoting adoption of innovative solutions,” she said.

Pip said a framework will help navigate a very busy and congested extension and adoption space.

“If we can help break that down and bring some simplification to it and recognise that there’s new and modern techniques and understanding out there around adult learning, behavioural science and implementation science, we’ll have a better result for agriculture,” she said.

The next step for the project is gathering feedback on the framework from Hub stakeholders such as RDCs. A series of workshops with local farming systems and Landcare groups will also take place in August so that grassroots groups are better supported by the Hub into the future.

The framework itself will be finalised in October and presented to the Hub Board.

“What’s important and exciting for the Hub is that this framework is not about ‘set and forget’. Rather it will be continually evolving and improving as the Hub brings it to life,” Pip said.
