New Agricultural Resilience Officer joins Bega Circularity Co-op

Luke Peel has joined the Bega Circularity Co-op as its new Agricultural Resilience Officer, bringing decades of experience across soils, water, landscape function and regenerative land management.

Luke’s background spans roles with Eco Logical Australia, the Mulloon Institute, Geoscience Australia, the Murray-Darling Basin Authority and the Northern Territory Government, covering everything from soil science and rangeland monitoring through to catchment restoration and farmer engagement.

For Luke, the role is about helping landholders build resilience from the ground up.

“I really enjoy working with farmers and helping people on the land,” he said. “A big part of this work is listening to what their challenges are, understanding the barriers they’re facing, and helping paint a picture of practical pathways forward.”

Luke said his experience working across vastly different landscapes around Australia has reinforced the importance of understanding how water, plants and soils work together as an interconnected system.

“When you improve landscape function, you build resilience,” he said. “That’s not just about environmental outcomes, it’s also about helping landholders improve productivity, reduce input costs and build resilience for climate extremes.”

Luke also sees strong opportunities in helping connect people, projects and ideas across the region through the Bega Circularity Co-op’s broader work around circularity and resilience.

“There’s a real appetite from people to get involved and work together,” he said. “A lot of the solutions already exist - part of the role is helping connect those dots and support people to put them into practice.”

In his new role, Luke will work closely with landholders, communities and partner organisations across the region, supporting practical approaches to landscape resilience, soil health and regenerative land management.
