Rural and First Nations community engagement

THRIIVE is dedicated to engaging rural and First Nations community groups through targeted educational initiatives in epidemiology and virology. We are establishing scholarship programs for regional Australian students, including a specific scholarship and short course for First Nations health workers to enhance their training in virology and pathobiology. Our goal is to promote STEM and health education while fostering meaningful partnerships within these communities.

Additionally, THRIIVE aims to raise health awareness about zoonotic diseases affecting humans and companion animals, focusing on managing wildlife reservoirs of emerging viruses. We will provide cultural competency training for our staff and mentoring for First Nations students. Our outreach includes open days at our virology research centers, interactive school tours, and a community lecture series in collaboration with local venues to encourage public engagement and understanding of these vital health issues.
